More than a month after Turkey promised the international community to cease its operation against the Kurds, the Syrian Democratic Council Executive President Ilham Ahmed stated that Turkey is not abiding by the ceasefire and the Turkish military operation continues against the Kurds in Syria, displacing more than 200,000 civilians.
Speaking at a breakfast meeting organized by Justice for Kurds in New York, the Kurdish leader said that Turkey is implementing an ethnic cleansing campaign against the Kurds in Syria while the US administration still refuses to help its Kurdish allies. “They don’t stop killing and displacing Kurds but the Turkish-backed forces have even cut thousands of trees and destroy any sigsn of life in the Kurdish towns and villages” Ahmed told members of the Justice for Kurds Advisory Council and guests.
Thomas Kaplan, the chairman of Justice for Kurds, echoed Ahmed’s concern about lack of support from the US to its allies in Syria labeling it as a ‘betrayal by the US’ . In the meeting, Kaplan announced that Justice for Kurds will soon publicly announce its advisory council that includes hundreds of prominent French, American, and European figures all working to bring awareness to the Kurdish cause in Washington and around the world.
